Abstract :
Recent developments in power electronics technology have provided a significant market penetration of adjustable speed drives, ASDs, which are economical, reliable and highly flexible in their use. These ASDs are rapidly becoming an important segment of the overall industrial and commercial loads seen by most distribution networks. While these new loads do contribute to the overall growth of the electric utility industry, they do also create potentially severe problems in terms of the electrical pollution (harmonic). The authors´ goal is the minimisation of the line current harmonic generated by the drive´s power converter, providing a high power factor and a regulated DC link voltage. The paper describes a simple and effective control technique suitable for this purpose. This technique provides a minimum exchange of reactive power between the network and the load
