Abstract :
Field measurements of state-of-polarization (SOP) fluctuations were carried out on two live, traffic-carrying OC-192 DWDM links over a hybrid aerial-buried fiber plant. These fluctuations varied significantly with daytime period and wavelength. Observations of burst-error performance were made on the OC-192 receivers during periods of fast polarizations oscillations and a corresponding specification for SOP tolerance for these links is proposed.
