  • Abstract
This study is aimed at establishing an efficient forest fire prevention mechanism by taking full advantage of various technologies. Based on an analysis of their strengths, this paper proposes a cooperation of video monitor and GIS systems. This cooperation establishes a co-movement and complementation between the two systems and claims to have at least the following two merits: (1) intelligent forest fire-and-smoke identification and alarming with relatively high accuracy and low rate of false alarm; (2) synchronous tracking of the video monitored areas in GIS of the forest resources, which helps in all weather conditions to obtain more accurate information about the landform and forest resources formation of the affected area.
