Abstract
Recent progress of 1.48- mu m and 0.98- mu m-wavelength MQW-LDs (multiquantum-well laser diodes) is reported. High-power QW-LDs have been developed for fiber amplifier excitation. Low internal absorption loss in QW-LDs resulted in high-power CW (continuous wave) operation. Reliability tests at around 100-mW emitting conditions have been conducted with promising long-term operability in the 1.48- mu m MQW-LDs as well as in the 0.98- mu m strained MQW-LDs.<>
