Abstract :
With high-quality picture TV currently attracting more attention, EDTV (extended definition television) broadcasting is beginning in Japan. EDTV is intended to improve picture quality, both at broadcasting stations and TV receivers. One of the major features EDTV broadcasting provides is the inserting GCR (ghost canceller reference) signal into the vertical blanking line period. The use of the inserted GCR signal by the television receiver permits easy equalization of waveforms and elimination of ghosts. The authors have successfully developed a fully digitized ghost canceller that is compatible with the GCR signal. They have succeeded in developing a new dividing method as a ghost elimination algorithm. This paper introduces these new developments.<>
