Abstract
CANopen based on the popular controller area network (CAN) represents an ideal networking system for distributed control systems and overcomes the limitations inherent in conventional master/slave and peer-to-peer networks. The paper discusses the benefits of using CANopen and describes its implementation on a distributed motion control system
