Abstract :
The electric power industry has undergone major changes in the last decade and has been driven by forces that include market pressure, new technologies, and governmental regulations. Because of the restructuring of the industry, the utilities have drifted from operating as engineering centric companies to operating as market centric organizations. This movement has had a significant impact on the electric utility workforce. Utilities look to their employees as their most important asset and the key to achieving their business goals. These are some of the professional staff issues confronting electric utilities that will be discussed during the presentation in the panel presentation entitled "Power Industry Workforce for the Future" at the 2006 IEEE/PES PSCE in Atlanta, Georgia
