Abstract :
We show that collision-induced timing jitter in WDM soliton systems can be significantly reduced by using moderate strength two-step dispersion maps. Third-order dispersion compensation was also found to be effective in drastically reducing collision-induced timing jitter. We present simulations of multiple channel pseudo-random soliton data in a range of dispersion map depths. We show that even for moderate strength dispersion maps, collision-induced timing jitter is significantly reduced. In the example chosen, such dispersion management reduces the jitter level after 4000 km to within acceptable levels
