Abstract
Some practical design considerations of an MPEG-2 decoder design are described. In particular, the management of elementary streams for video and audio decoding is discussed. The practical buffering requirements for the video and audio decoding is evaluated, and calculated for the video sub-set, main profile at the main level. Finally, a discussion on the mechanisms for audio-video synchronisation is provided
