SOA´s are presently attracting much interest both for practical applications as stand alone for monolithic integration in OEIC´s. Integrated with other optical components, they provide high fiber-to-fiber gain, optical gates, entire transceivers, wavelength converters and optically controlled switches and demultiplexers
