Abstract :
We discuss an object-based wavelet image coding system utilizing the SPIHT codec as the core compression technique. Besides its high compression efficiency, our approach features an important aspect for object-based progressive transmission: although containing visual objects at various target bitrates the full embeddedness of the output bitstream is preserved. We demonstrate the functionality in the context of ROI coding
