Abstract
Instruments utilizing heater thermistors as sensors can measure currents over the range of five to 50 cm/s. Owing to their small size and great sensitivity, such devices are ideal for the estimation of benthic boundary layer thicknesses, stirring rates of in situ incubation experiments, and currents in and around sessile creatures. Such an apparatus is presented and a means of removing ambient temperature effects from the data is discussed. Attention is given to five calibration data sets, generated over the 15 to 35°C range
