Abstract :
This paper describes some simulation results obtained within the European ACTS/AWACS (Advanced Communications Technologies and Services/ATM Wireless Access Communication System) project in order to evaluate the performance of the AWACS system in a large indoor environment such as a factory. The AWACS system is based on AWA (ATM Wireless Access) pre-prototype, that was developed by NTT and made available to AWACS consortium as a hardware basis for trials and system studies. In particular, a relationship between link and system level simulations has been derived to allow the definition of quality of service (QoS) criteria. Link level simulations have been carried out by considering a set of channel impulse responses measured in the field trials performed. Within the project and results are given in terms of bit error rate (BER). The system level evaluation has been performed on the basis of a radio electric coverage of the factory area and results are mainly given in terms of call dropping and call blocking probabilities
