Abstract
An anomaly in the L - version of the Laplace transform currently used in most electrical engineering textbooks is demonstrated. The anomaly manifests itself in the solution of differential equations for t =0-. The L - transform yields correct results for t ⩾0. The L p transform presented reveals the origin of the inconsistency and a means of removing the inconsistency, if desired. The L p transform is not recommended as a replacement for the L - transform but is offered as a means of putting the inconsistency into perspective
