Abstract :
This paper examines the hysteresis margin (Δ) as a way of avoiding the `ping-pong´ effect when making hard handovers, and limiting the number of transceivers per base station (BS) when making soft handovers, Perfect power control is assumed and the external interference with the cell under study, with direct consequences on the capacity of the system, is calculated anew. It is shown that both hard and soft solutions have similar external interference. As most external interference is caused by adjacent cells, an FDMA/CDMA system is also considered. Under the above assumptions, the SIR of a FH/FDMA system was evaluated for some σ. These results re-evaluated the capacities of FH/FDMA, a CDMA, a FDMA/CDMA and a TDMA/CDMA system
