  • Abstract
To accomplish the task of providing a wireless access to the fixed network in a UMTS scenario, DECT is also expected to support multimedia traffic requiring multi-slot allocation. To this aim, a modified channel access algorithm, based on a slot-segmentation technique is adopted and combined with a priority-based management of the access requests. This paper illustrates the interesting effects of these enhancements in traditional DECT. The results of a performance evaluation activity in a multi-cell environment with wide-band and narrow-band traffic is reported. Achieved improvements are manifest in terms of both throughput and guaranteed QoS to each type of traffic
