Abstract
The Siberian Lyceum has developed a computer-aided instruction (CAI) system for teaching the Russian language. Called the Information and Didactic System (IDS) Symbol, it has four levels of automation providing the capability to introduce any intermediate levels into the teaching process - from the episodic usage of engineering means of self-testing to the complete automation similar to traditional CAI systems. The IDS Symbol also can function with selective answers as well as with natural ones. Its ability to self-test solves many of the problems related to student psychological adaptation and allows for the effective preparation of a uniform state examination on the Russian language.
