Abstract
It has been shown that the standard electrical drive configuration, which has been utilized throughout the cement industry on kiln drives for many years, can be a significant contributor to vibration and gear wear problems. An alternative configuration with dual supplies and control systems is described that provides highly beneficial electromechanical system interactions. These interactions will prevent costly gear maintenance problems resulting from vibrations at the two lower-order torsional resonances. It is recommended that this arrangement be adopted as a standard on all new kiln drive installations
