ABCC8 was widely studied for association with type 2 diabetes in various ethnic groups; however, contradictory results have been reported. We performed a comprehensive meta-analysis of 23 studies for rs1799854, 7 studies for rsl801261, 4 studies for rs4148643 and 7 studies for rs757110 variants of the ABCC8 gene to evaluate the effect of the ABCC8 gene on genetic susceptibility for type 2 diabetes. Meta-analysis revealed a significant association of rs757110 with type 2 diabetes with a combined allelic OR of 1.135 (95%CI 1.053-1.224, P=0.001), whereas rs1799854, rs1801261, rs4148643, which showed a low linkage disequilibrium with rs757110, were not associated with type 2 diabetes worldwide.
