Abstract
The increasing speed mismatch between storage device and processor has fueled a search for new storage structures and retrieval mechanisms. This paper describes the design and prototype implementation of RSC, a reliable high-performance clustered storage system for multimedia applications. To achieve high reliability, we adopt a novel hierarchy management method to ensure the metadata security and consistency. The adaptive data migration mechanism aims at keeping system load balance. With a dynamic membership management, RSC can be configured and maintained incrementally without interrupting its normal operation. Performance test results show that such a storage cluster provide good features and high performance through two groups of control experiments
