Abstract
This paper describes the influences of high-speed reclosing of system faults on turbine-generators and the generator shaft mechanical system. Two reclosing schemes were considered, namely simultaneous and adaptive reclosing. In the case of a single line-to-ground fault, single-pole reclosing is considered in clearing such a fault. In this context, investigations have been conducted on a large turbine-generator model taking into consideration the uncertainty of several factors associated with the practical operation of a power system. A calculation method is shown for the expected life expenditure ratio and the expected shaft lifetime taking into consideration stochastic factors such as fault clearing and reclosing times, fault duration, fault location and fault type using shaft strength characteristics.
