Abstract :
The National Ocean Service (NOS) is currently supporting the development and implementation of the Graphical Analysis, Archiving, and Display Station (GAADS) of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) through the provision of electronic chart prototypes. NOS is working closely with the USCG and is assisting it in the determination of data requirements and feature display density by producing a number of digital nautical chart specific data files. In addition, NOS is developing an efficient method for producing digital data files for the entire suite of NOS nautical charts, if required. The author describes the GAADS system, data preparation, and prototype production techniques employed in the compilation of GAADS charts
