To observe the changes of amyloid beta peptide and tau protein positive of hippocampus in ovariectomized rats of Alzheimer´s disease and the effect of estrogen. The model of the AD and ovariectomized(AD+OVX) rats was established by transecting hippocampal fimbria-fornix and OVX of rats. We used Morris water maze to test the changes of cognitive function in each group. We detected the changes of amyloid beta peptide and tau protein positive of hippocampus in ovariectomized rats of Alzheimer´s disease by immunocytochemistry. The ability of learning and memory were increased significantly and the expression of amyloid beta peptide and tau protein positive of hippocampus in ovariectomized rats of Alzheimer´s disease, while amyloid beta peptide and tau protein positive of hippocampus in AD-OVX rats was decreased. EB could improve the ability of learning and memory by decreasing the level of Aβand tau protein positive of hippocampus.
