Abstract :
A novel approach for vehicles collision-avoiding is described. This approach combines the techniques of millimeter wave with image processing. The relative speed and position information of the object is detected by utilizing millimeter wave radar and the width information of it is obtained by a CCD camera, which fixed in the vehicle. The object´s width is detected by difference method with the image background rebuilt. In order to satisfy the request of the real time of the collision-avoiding system, this paper proposes a present position estimation algorithm of the motional objects so as to make up the lag of hardware processing. The simulation result shows that the collision-avoiding system based on millimeter wave and image processing makes up the deficiency of either detects by millimeter wave or image processing, it can realize the vehicle´s real time and online avoiding collision and reduce the possibility of false alarm
