Abstract
Examines a number of existing Internet-based tele-operation systems (IBTS). From the survey of these systems, the architecture of a typical IBTS is defined and its functional components as well as the interface between the components identified. We then argue the use of Java as an ideal implementation vehicle for an IBTS and provide an example system that involves the tele-operation of a three-fingered hand via the Internet.
