DNA recombinant technology, which is also called gene engineering, alters the genetic makeup of an organism using molecular techniques that introduce heritable material prepared outside the organism either directly into the host or into a cell that is then fused or recombined with the host genome. This involves many experimental operations, including isolation of gene or target DNA fragment, construction of recombinant vector DNA, gene targeting or transformation, selection and confirmation. Now, DNA recombinant technology has wide applications in many field, moreover, it is also a very important teaching content in the undergraduate course molecular biology in university, consisting of theoretical and experimental teachings. To keep close pace with the times, it is necessary and significant to strengthen learning and communication each other among different universities or teachers. Therefore, the teaching on DNA recombinant technology in the undergraduate course molecular biology in China West Normal University (Nanchong City, P. R. China) was taken as an example, and the relevant teaching contents and methods were presented here. This report is beneficial for the teaching work of the courses molecular biology and gene engineering in other universities.
