Vermifilter was founded on the basis of conventional biofilter, which introduced earthworms into the filter. In this study, the performance of vermifilter treating municipal wastewater under low temperature was investigated. Results showed that in the winter, the vermifilter could still perform well when the hydraulic loading was around 5.0 m3/m2-d. When the COD and NH3-N concentration of the influent was below 450 mg/L and 40 mg/L, respectively, COD could be reduced to less than 75 mg/L and ammonia nitrogen less than 20 mg/L. Water quality of the effluent could meet the second standard of Chinese Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant (GB 18918-2002).
