Abstract
A stereo camera model, termed the zoom-based model which reveals a similar optical effect to that of the motion-in-depth model, is presented and analyzed. The main difference between the two models is the mechanism of the camera displacement and the resulting variation of the effective focal length. The mathematical expressions for the zoom model are related to the corresponding ones in the motion-in-depth case by a factor which is a function of the focal length change. Although the zoom model possesses the same advantages as the motion-in-depth model, the search-for-correspondence range is further reduced in the zoom-based case. The disadvantages of the zoom-based approach are also presented
