Abstract
This paper highlights some of the key areas of investigation in the network design and analysis of the Deployable Autonomous Distributed System (DADS). DADS is an exploratory research program sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. Simulation was essential in providing system trade-offs and parametric studies of critical system functions. The study of network operations in the DADS environment has resulted in a variety of requirements and lessons learned that are beyond the scope of traditional terrestrial wireless communications systems. This paper also discusses the results of a simulation study of DADS deployment in a typical operational scenario
