High performance brushless permanent magnet traction drives for hybrid electric vehicles

Information is presented on methods for assessing traction machine performance for their selection as all- and hybrid-electric vehicle drives. The suitability of permanent magnet drives is discussed together with post assembly magnetisation as a technique for reducing cost in volume manufacture.
