Abstract
This paper examines eddy-current brakes. Our aim is to model the brake and estimate its braking power. We focused on a static model, in which the flux density distribution on the eddy current surface was calculated using finite element methods. Next, we derived a dynamic model whose eddy currents were computed by means of an analytical expression. We then performed a 2D analytical calculation, which could be compared with finite element calculations using the ANSYS(R) code, followed by a 3D analytical calculation
