Title :
Rewinding generator fields
Author :
Bresney, Michael J.
Abstract :
Most rewinds are performed to replace aged ground insulation and turn to turn insulation. Although the main function of the generator field insulation system is considered to be insulating components electrically, the mechanical requirements of the insulation system are where most of the challenges lie. All components of the field must work together as a system in order for the field to operate in an optimum fashion. Operational experience has shown that some assemblies work well as originally designed, where others could benefit from upgrades/modern materials that can be applied during the rewind process. Rewind specifications written to address specific operational issues provide for a well defined rewind scope. Well defined scopes specific to particular designs provide for consistent bids and subsequent bid evaluation
