Abstract
Summary form only given. It was expected that the use of CAD systems in the classroom to teach basic courses of engineering drawing (EG-166) instead of the traditional pencil and paper, was going to significantly reduce the time spent by the students on their daily assignments. One of the objectives in these courses is to develop the students ability to see objects in 3D and to convey information on those objects in 2D representations. It was also expected that the reduction of time for the daily assignments was going to give the lecturer more time to talk about fundamental concepts in visualization. Primary results, however, have shown that the students are more interested in learning the CAD system and are paying less attention to the basic engineering concepts and 3D visualization techniques.
