Abstract :
This paper presents the wireless channel characteristics and network deployment in the mine. Our experiments on MicaZ in the tunnel proved that wireless network sensors (WSN) working on 2.4GHz have great potential in the mine. A new radio propagation model for the mine is built in NS based on packet reception rate (PRR), path-loss exponent and shadowing deviation. Three deployment measures have been recommended: (1)structured placement with relay nodes (2) two- tier hierarchical cluster with long gird topology or arbitrary mesh graph (3) three kinds of heterogeneous deployment.
