A novel chlorimuron-ethyl-degrading bacterium named D310-1 was isolated from the sewage sludge samples collected from the activated sludge tank of a chlorimuron ethyl plant by classical enrichment techniques. Combining morphological characteristics and physiobiochemical characteristics with 16S rDNA sequence analysis, strain D310-1 was assigned to the genus Rhodococcus. Its ability to remove chlorimuron-ethyl was tested in 250 ml erlenmeyer flasks under different incubation conditions. Remove efficiencies as high as 84.45% were obtained although efficiencies varied depending on the incubation conditions, indicating that strain D310-1 offers great possibilities for the bioremediation of soil contaminated with chlorimuronethyl.
