Abstract
An automatic data acquisition approach and its implemented algorithm for a preorder traversing sibling tree to search CTG (CAD-tools-generated) files which are under the Unix operating system directory of a sibling tree structure are presented. By using this approach, the design data are extracted from CTG files and are sent to a design database automatically. Automatic database maintenance, dynamic space declaration, and design knowledge acquisition invoked by this approach are also discussed. This approach saves data collection time and reduces the possibility of errors. This approach can be applied to enhance the performance of VLSI CAD (computer-aided design) database management systems
