Abstract
This paper presents the analysis and performance of a three-phase AC generator with an inset NdFeB permanent-magnet rotor. It is shown that the generator exhibits inverse saliency which results in an improvement in the voltage regulation. Conditions for achieving zero voltage regulation of the generator are deduced based on the two-axis theory. The finite element method is used for computing the direct- and quadrature-axis synchronous reactances, from which the generator performance may be determined. The theoretical analysis is verified by experiments performed on a prototype generator
