Abstract
The aim of this paper is to study the temperature distribution effect on the permanent magnets for a chosen cooling system when designing a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with radial flux distribution for ship propulsion drives. The electromechanical characteristics of the motor are computed using a two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA), while the thermal analysis is achieved using a 3D comprehensive heat transfer simulation package
