Abstract :
A novel image analysis/synthesis system based on time-domain aliasing cancellation (TDAC) is presented. It is described under a block transform interpretation and has the unique feature of allowing overlapping analysis windows without incurring data expansion. The system is first derived as a separable application of a 1-D TDAC system to an images´s rows and columns and is further shown to have a more general derivation in terms of purely 2-D operations. The application of the 2-D TDAC system to transform coding of images is presented, and the results from using different amounts of window overlap are discussed and compared to the performance of a DCT (discrete cosine transform)-based transform coder. The results showed improvement over the DCT coder in removing block edge artifacts and in general produced a more subjectively pleasing image
