Abstract
Piezoelectric interfacial waves (PIWs) propagate along conducting planes embedded in piezoelectric crystals: shortening of the electric field by the plane reduces the elastic wave velocity and provides the waveguiding mechanism. Propagating inside the body, PIWs are well protected from environmental interference and thus, PIWs are interesting for applications in highly stable devices, filters and piezoelectric resonators. In this paper, the problem of generation and detection of PIWs by interdigital transducers (IDTs) is considered, the IDTs widely used in SAW technology. The theory is developed accounting for bulk waves that are generated and transmitted between two uniform IDTs
