Abstract :
The primary attributes of the performance analysis of a Manufacturing Automation Protocol (MAP) network are transmission time and throughput. To make a meaningful performance analysis of a network, specific conditions such as node and network loading, message length, and baud rate have to be established prior to making the measurements. The authors describe two nodes established on the experimental MAP network at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The results of the measurements are analyzed and documented with respect to network performance. It is concluded that MAP provides an acceptable way of transferring blocks of information between RS-232-C devices by a full seven-layer implementation
