Abstract :
The drive-current-induced forced mode locking of a diode laser with an external cavity was studied by nonlinear analysis. The coupled-cavity effects were studied without having to assume in advance the type of solution to the coupled-mode equations. It is shown that, with homogeneous saturation, a set of modes may exist which quenches all other sets. If multiple mode sets do exist, they produce separate pulses which beat together to produce an output pulse with many lobes
