  • Abstract
The authors report that they have observed deterministic chaos while attempting to measure low-frequency electrical noise in bulk YBa 2Cu3O7. The current induced excess noise in bulk YBa2Cu3O7 varied as 1/f with frequency but the noise levels were low. Depending on the magnitude of measuring current, the excess noise spectrum would fall below the background noise spectrum between 10 and 300 Hz. The signal analyzer used displays data out to 100 kHz, but usually only background appeared in the full-range spectrum. Once in a while, however, the 1-100-kHz spectrum would erupt into a panoply of closely spaced, irregular peaks. Such behavior is strongly suggestive of the period-doubling route to chaos. The power spectrum and Poincare section obtained while passing DC current through bulk YBa2Cu3 O7 are displayed
