Abstract :
A three-dimensional (3D) simulation was developed to predict the refraction errors in stereo-optical triangulation due to an arbitrarily oriented plane parallel interface. The simulation was verified against measured data from a commercial motion tracking system and used to accurately correct tracker measurements for refraction error. The effects of refraction error in a PET phantom study was also demonstrated in order to determine whether such errors significantly affect the point spread function and when correction may be needed in practice.
