Abstract :
The performances of multilayer medium thin film (MMTF) and long-period waveguide grating (LPWG) filters are compared and contrasted for the case of optical waveguide amplifiers. The effects of the transmission spectra of the two kinds of filters on the amplified spontaneous emission spectrum of Er-Yb codoped phosphate glass waveguide amplifiers are discussed. The analysis demonstrates that LPWG filters show improved performance compared to MMTF filters.
