  • Abstract
This paper describes the proposal and operational principle of a JBSTBC (joint beamforming space-time block coding) scheme over an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system. The proposed JBSTBC-MIMO-OFDM scheme is suitable for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems whose major functionality is composed of space-time block encoder and its block-ordered decoder incorporated with joint transmit and receive eigen-beamformers. Among those, the joint eigen-beamformers are utilized for decorrelating fading channels so as to enhance spatial diversity gain. Moreover, in order to fortify the capability of "successive signal separation" in the block-ordered decoding process, a simple ad-hoc transmit power allocation scheme, based on a particular power discrimination function (PDF), is developed in this paper.
