Abstract :
The LOR rebinning technique for motion correction in PET imaging has been shown to compensate effectively for rigid motion. Each individual event, represented as an LOR, is spatially transformed to compensate for motion of the object during the scan. The main limitation of this technique is that some motion-corrected events which fall out of the acceptance range of the 3D sinogram are discarded, reducing count statistics in the affected sinogram bins and potentially leading to artifacts in the reconstructed image. In this paper we investigate a compensation method for lost events in LOR rebinning that uses single slice rebinning to assign events that would otherwise be lost to a sinogram.
