Abstract :
A low-power 2-16 GHz frequency synthesizer fabricated in 130nm CMOS technology is presented. A singlesideband mixer combines feed-forward and regenerative mixing techniques as well as frequency divide-by-two circuits to achieve the wide frequency range. A dynamic current-clipped QVCO that exhibits excellent phase noise and outstanding quadrature phase accuracy is developed. The frequency synthesizer fabricated in 130nm CMOS technology achieves 0.6ps jitter and spurs tones under -42dBc while consuming a maximum power of 64mW with 1.2/1.8V power supplies.
