Abstract :
The authors discuss the development of an expert system assisting production line design. They propose a multiobjective evaluation reasoning method based on a knowledge database consisting of objects such as if-then-rules and frame knowledge representations. Both crisp and vague values are described in the knowledge database. The system is able to control nonmonotonic reasoning in production line design by using hypothetical reasoning. A knowledge acquisition idea is proposed for creating new machine tool specifications by case-based reasoning and to then apply the specifications to the expert system
