Abstract :
The authors present a combustion control support expert system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to regulate emissions and to achieve high-efficiency operation. The operation support expert system has the following five main functions and subsystems: optimal combustion support using fuzzy logic; dynamic simulation for NOx emission; diagnosis by the expert system for the boiler and combustion system; automatic unburned carbon monitoring system; and a monitoring system using a communication line. The configuration of the combustion control support expert system is described. This system has been tested at a coal-fired power plant, and the results are presented
